Participants will take part in a group brainstorming session designed to build an understanding of the concept of discrimination and the different forms it can take.

9.30 - 10.15 Presentation on the EU Directives - Key Concepts (Plenary)

This session aims to provide participants with sufficient understanding of the legal standards of the Directive, with a particular focus on the key concepts and enable you to link these to the concept of discrimination developed in the previous session.

2.00 – 3.00 EU Standards in the National Context: Group discussion of national situation (in Country groups)
  • Short presentation on the national situation by each participant based on their preparatory work (5 Minutes each)
  • 10 Minute presentation by Advisory Panel member on the National situation
This session aims to provide an opportunity for the sharing of experiences and understanding of the national situation and to provide participants with a greater understanding of the legal standards of the Directive, with a particular focus on the national situation/national legal context.

3.10 – 3.40 Introduction to forms and skills of monitoring, advocacy and working with lawyers (both ways) (Plenary)
This session aims to enable participants to think strategically and consider how to use different means to change a situation. It will provide an introduction to and establish a common understanding of the concepts of strategic litigation & advocacy and enable an understanding of the role of litigation in a broader advocacy strategy.

9.30 – 10.15 Visioning an Anti-Discrimination Strategy 1 (national workshop groups)
During the visioning sessions participants will be undertaking a series of facilitated exercises to enable them to develop a shared vision of the future, and explore what needs to be done to achieve that vision.

2pm - 5pm Action Planning an NGO national strategy on litigation and support: Workshop on the production of a National Strategy (National Workshop Groups)
This session will focus on the concrete development of an NGO national strategy on litigation and support by each group. A framework strategy will be provided, and facilitated discussions will enable groups to produce a strategy that is appropriate for them.

Each group will also be asked to prepare a summary of their strategy to report back to the plenary, and a 2 minute TV advertisement ‘selling your strategy’.

This session aims to enable participants to gain insights & ideas from the strategies developed by other country groups as well as to gain feedback and constructive comments on their draft NGO national strategy.

This session will provide a space for reflection and to raise common issues that are relevant to all countries. It will also enable participants to identify any ‘added-value’ activities, any potential for links between strategies in different countries and potential follow-up activities, including uses of the SOLID website.
